Astros outfielder J.D. Martinez was put on the 15-day disabled list following Friday’s 12-6 loss at Toronto. To take his place on the roster the Astros have recalled from Triple A Oklahoma City outfielder Robbie Grossman, a product of Cy-Fair High School who will have a second stint with the Astros this season.

Martinez was injured in Friday’s game. He sprained his left wrist on what Astros manager Bo Porter said was an awkward slide into second base. Martinez jammed his wrist on the play.

“It’s definitely unfortunate but it is a situation where he’s going to have to go on the disabled list,” said Porter.

Martinez, who has started 70 games for the Astros, just returned to the lineup on Thursday after missing Wednesday’s home game with Oakland with a lower back contusion sustained in Tuesday’s game.

On Friday, Martinez played right field and was 2-for-3 with two runs. He was replaced by Justin Maxwell in the seventh inning.

The Astros expect Grossman, 23, to be at the ballpark in time for Saturday’s 12:05 p.m. start at the Rogers Centre in Toronto.

In 28 games with the Astros this season Grossman hit .198 with 16 walks and a .310 on-base percentage. In 69 games this season at Oklahoma City Grossman hit .273 with 40 runs, 47 walks and 14 stolen bases.
