Rockets re-unite with old teammates
Wednesday will be the first chance for the Rockets to see former teammates Patrick Patterson, Toney Douglas, and Cole Aldrich.
Except they'll be wearing Sacramento Kings threads.
The three were traded in the deal that brought the Rockets Thomas Robinson and Francisco Garcia, along with the since-waived Tyler Honeycutt.
On the night the players were shipped to Sacramento, Jeremy Lin said, “It sucks because we’re a close-knit team and we actually really, really care about everybody that got shipped off and it was just really emotional for me."
That night, the Rockets defeated the Thunder 122-119. Yet the players no longer in the locker room still weighed heavily on the remaining Rockets' minds.
“To be honest, I was like ‘I don’t even want to play. I don’t even want to play tonight.’ It was really emotional. I wish them the best. It just sucks to see them go and I guess that’s a part of the business but that’s a tough part for me.”
Now, a little over a month later, the first reunion between these Rockets past and Rockets present will take place.
"I'm excited to see those guys," Chandler Parsons said. "Obviously, I developed a relationship with them while they were here. Just hoping they continue to play well and I really miss those guys and it'll be exciting to catch up with them."
"I miss those guys," James Harden added. "I'm looking forward to seeing them, hanging out with them, talk to them, ask them how it is in Sacramento."
Kevin McHale loves the traded threesome, but as a coach, he knows his responsibility is to worry more about the task at hand.
"We're going to have our hands full," McHale said. "All three guys - Cole, Pat, and Toney - are great guys, but they're on the other team now. I'm more worried about this team."
