On Monday, the Dynamo acquired defender Eric Brunner from the Portland Timbers in exchange for allocation money.

The 26-year-old Brunner has played in 84 games in six MLS seasons. In 2012, he started 10 games and scored a goal. He was limited with injuries.

“I think Eric is a good center back,” said Dynamo head coach Dominic Kinnear. “He is both good in the air and with the ball at his feet. He has good pace and is also good on set pieces. He has done well in the past with Portland and Columbus. I think he is going to be an important part of the team next year, with the amount of games we’re playing and tournaments we’re in, and the possibility of losing players to the Gold Cup.”

Brunner was a first-round pick by the Red Bulls in 2008. After a season in the USL First Division, he signed with the Columbus Crew. He was then taken by the Timbers in the 2010 expansion draft.

“I am definitely excited to join the Dynamo,” Brunner said. “There is a lot of history in Houston, and it is an honor and a privilege to join a team that has made the MLS Cup the last two years. I am definitely excited to be included in that rich history.”
