The Texas Kickoff now has a sponsor and that might mean more mar key college programs coming to Houston in the few seasons.

ESPN Regional Television and AdvoCare International LP announced a four-year title sponsorship of the Texas Kickoff. Beginning in 2013, the event will officially be named the AdvoCare Texas Kickoff and will be featured on Labor Day weekend at Reliant Stadium.

The annual game will match-up premier college football teams from around the country to kick off the college football season. Jamey Rootes, President of the Houston Texans and Lone Star Sports & Entertainment, said that the sponsorship brings security to the game.

“This is important to ensure the longevity and strength of the Kickoff Game,” Rootes said. “We now have a great platform of mar key college football events that we know will be coming through our community year after year.”

With the game now more secure, the goal now is to bring the top college programs to Houston to compete in the season’s first college football game.

“It is challenging to attract them and it’s not inexpensive,” Rootes said. “You have to make it worth their while. And now with AdvoCare we have the financial strength to go out and make big things happen for Houston, which was the vision from the beginning.

“Now with this in hand we can look at 2014 and (20)15 and (20)16 and schedule out into the future because we have that stability and security. It gives us a chance to plan long out into the future and I think the announcements that we’ll make in the not to distant future the fans will be very excited about.”

Oklahoma State and Mississippi State will square off in the inaugural game on Saturday, August 31.
