For the first time in the seven-year history of the Texas Bowl, the game will be played Dec. 27. The announcement was made by bowl officials Wednesday.
Previously, the bowl had always been played between Dec. 28 and Dec. 31, but was slotted at 5 p.m. Dec. 27 to accommodate ESPN’s Bowl Week telecasts.
The conference affiliations will remain the same for the bowl with the Big 12 playing the Big 10. This is the fourth year where the two conferences have played in the Texas Bowl, with the Big 12 holding a 2-1 advantage. Last year, Texas Tech rallied to beat Minnesota 34-31.
The bowl has been well attended in its run at Reliant Stadium, averaging over 61,000 fans per contest.
