For the second week in a row and third time time this season, Rice freshman guard Max Guercy was voted Conference USA Freshman of the Week.
The Arleta, Calif. native averaged 15.0 points, 4.5 assists and 2.5 rebounds on the week. Guercy led the Owls with 21 points on 7-of-9 shooting and three three-pointers in last Wednesday's comeback 79-69 win over crosstown rival Houston. He also added four assists and four rebounds. On Saturday against East Carolina, Guercy registered nine points, five assists, two steals and a rebound.
On the season, the freshman is averaging 9.7 points, 2.6 assists and 2.3 rebounds per game. Guercy is shooting 45.8 percent from the field and 42.9 percent from three-point range. He ranks in the league’s top 15 in four statistical categories, including seventh in three-point accuracy and eighth in free throw percentage (79.2 percent).
Guercy's first honor came on Jan. 7 while his second honor was one week ago.
