Prior to the Owls’ final practice before opening their 2013 baseball season, Rice will honor Phillip Humber’s 2012 perfect game by unveiling a special commemorative plaque at Reckling Stadium on Thursday.

The plaque will feature the text of the email Humber sent to Rice head coach Wayne Graham shortly after pitching his perfect game vs. the Seattle Mariners on April 21, 2012.

The Carthage, TX native was a star pitcher for the Owls from 2002 – 2004, helping to lead the team to two College World Series appearances, including a national championship in 2003.

Although Graham will attend the unveiling, Humber is at spring training with the Astros where he will be fighting for a spot in the starting rotation.

Rice will open their season vs. No. 4 Stanford on Friday at 4:30 p.m.
