Report: Hayden in stable but critical condition

According to a report from the Houston Chronicle's Joseph Duarte, University of Houston defensive back D.J. Hayden is in critical but stable condition after undergoing surgery on Tuesday evening to repair a tear in the main blood vessel leading to his heart.

The university had no comment on Wednesday night, citing federal privacy laws.

Hayden suffered the injury during Tuesday night's practice and was transported by ambulance to Memorial Hermann Hospital.

No additional information from the Universtiy of Houston or Memorial Hermann Hospital has been available. Hayden's Houston teammates have been tweeting thoughts and prayers while asking fans to tweet support as well using the hashtag #PrayforDJ.

Hayden leads both the Cougars and Conference USA with four interceptions and was named Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week for the last week in October after notching two interceptions in a win over UTEP.
