Hayden reflects on injury, prepares for Combine
D.J. Hayden, the University of Houston defensive back whose season was cut short after suffering a near fatal leg injury on the Cougars practice field this fall, will be one of the hundreds of former college players auditioning for NFL teams at the NFL Scouting Combine later this month.
Hayden was the only Cougar invited to the Combine but he wasn't the only Houston area player invited. Rice tight end Vance McDonald and Sam Houston State defensive back Daxton Swanson also earned invitations.
The NFL Scouting Combine is an invitation only event where college players eligible for the NFL Draft come to be weighed, measured, tested and interviewed by NFL teams. The event is held in Indianapolis every year prior to the Draft. This year's event is scheduled for February 20-26.
