After being put in a medically induced coma because of a head injury, former Texas forward Gary Johnson is expected to make a full recovery.

Johndre Jefferson, who plays for Elitzur Ramla, tweeted Tuesday that he “accidentally elbowed” Johnson in the forehead and “cracked his skull” while chasing down a missed shot in a game.

Israel Basketball Association spokesman Hagai Segal told the Associated Press that the 24-year-old Johnson has regained consciousness and is communicative. Segal added that Johnson will require some plastic surgery but should make a full recovery.

Johnson played at Aldine High School in Houston before playing at Texas from 2007-11, a span of time in which the Longhorns made the NCAA Tournament every year.
