Even though the University of Houston and Rice are no longer in the same conference, they will still battle for the Bayou Bucket, setting the game time for 2 p.m. on Saturday, September 21.
In an ironic twist, Reliant Stadium is the home stadium for the University of Houston in 2013 as the Cougars build a new on-campus stadium. But the game, which is being played at Reliant Stadium for the second consecutive year was designed as a neutral site venue so Rice is actually the home team for the game.
As such, the game will be televised as part of the Conference USA package instead of the All American Conference.
This will be the first time since 2005 that the two schools will be facing each other in a non-conference game. The two were rivals in the Southwest Conference until it broke up following the 1995 season, and Rice was in the WAC until reuniting with Houston by joining Conference USA in 2005.
This will be the University of Houston’s first season in the newly renamed American Athletic Conference.
