District title implications are on the line for Harlingen when the Cardinals take the field Thursday night against Brownsville Hanna on CSN Houston.
Harlingen can play its way into a share of the district 32-5A crown if it can beat the Brownville Hanna Golden Eagles. A loss would still mean a trip to the playoffs for the Cardinals but no momentum heading into the postseason. With a win, Harlingen would tie the winner of the Los Fresnos-Harlingen South game to see which team it would share the title with. If Harlingen wins, it would be the fifth straight year the Cardinals have won or shared the district title.
Hanna was knocked out of the playoffs last week but gets to play spoiler this week against Harlingen. A win also means the Golden Eagles will have won its last three games, and also avoided a losing record for the regular season and district play. With the four wins already in hand, Hanna has equaled the victory total of the past two seasons combined.
Keep an eye on Harlingen running back Dione Conde. Conde has scored 14 touchdowns so far this year, but he’ll have to make sure he protects the football against Hanna. The Golden Eagles defense keyed its win over Lopez last week by returning two fumbles for touchdowns.
