Last weekend’s high school football playoff action was not for the faint of heart with five of the 10 games involving Houston area teams going down to the wire. Here’s a look back at the fantastic finishes.

North Shore defeated Alief Elsik 17-10 – North Shore kicked a field goal to go up seven over Elsik with three minutes left in the game. Elsik drove the ball down to the North Shore 32 before turning it over on downs with 28 seconds left.

Cy Ranch defeated Manvel 43-42 – Cy Ranch trailed Manvel 42-28 with two minutes left in the game before lightning struck. Cy Ranch scored on a 10-yard pass with 1:38 and was successful with a two point conversion to close within six points. Ranch then recovered an onside kick and scored on a Keith Ford five yard run with :11 to win it.

Plano West defeated Lufkin 55-52 – Plano West led Lufkin 48-24 with nine minutes left in the third quarter before the Panthers got to work.  Lufkin scored 28 points over the next 18 minutes to take the lead 52-48 with 3:28 left. That proved to be too much time on the clock. Plano West drove back down and scored the winning touchdown with 1:12 left.

Nederland defeated Pearland Dawson 22-19 – Nederland led the top ranked team in 4A 16-0 late in the third quarter before Dawson roared back. Dawson kicked a 32 yard field goal with no time left to tie the game, and then kicked a field goal on its first overtime possession to take a 19-16 lead. Nederland won the game on a 25 yard scoring strike from Carson Raines to Seth Barrow.

Marshall defeated Elgin 31-28 -  Marshall turned the ball over twice inside the Elgin 10 yard line, but still led  Wildcats by three in the fourth quarter until Elgin’s De’Trean Simmons scored with 3:28 left to take a 28-24 advantage. Marshall rallied, though and quarterback J.W. Ketchum’s 11 yard run with :16 left won the game for the Buffaloes.
