John Kelly on Clear Brook-College Park
The score will say Clear Brook beat The Woodlands College Park 20-9 on Friday at District Stadium in League City, but the clear winner was the weather, which deluged both teams in the second half.
A steady rain wiped out both offenses, College Park turned the ball over four times in the second half, while Clear Brook managed just three first downs and 87 yards of offense in the game.
Clear Brook broke the game open thanks to the second half turnovers, which set the Wolverines up on the Cavalier 34, 15, 15 and 20 in their first four drives. Even with that great field position, Clear Brook was only able to get 10 points out of them.
It wasn’t until Emmerson Fraley picked off a Colton Farmer pass and returned it 30 yards for a touchdown and a 20-3 lead with 5:14 left in the game.
College Park mustered a late drive at the end of the game, capped by a one-yard Farmer sneak with just over a minute left.
College Park has some time to get themselves back on track, the Cavaliers have a bye-week before beginning district play with Oak Ridge on Oct. 4.
Clear Brook, however, dives right into the deep end of district play with a game against 24-5A rival Clear Springs on Saturday.
