Cierre Wood on being roommates with Te'o
Plenty of his Texans teammates have asked Cierre Wood about his college teammate Manti Te’o.
And not because the Texans are playing the Chargers in Week 1.
Nope. Instead, the running back gets questions about Te’o’s infamous fake girlfriend. Wood at Te'o were roommates while at Notre Dame, Wood said.
“Everybody asks me about Te’o,” said Wood, who made the Texans’ 53-man roster as an undrafted rookie. “That was just something I expected was going to happen. I got asked on the street a couple times, so I expected it in the locker room.”
Wood said he even heard conversations between Te’o and his “girlfriend” while at Notre Dame. Wood even said hello to her.
“It was along the lines of, if I came in here with a goldfish and said, ‘Hey, this is my goldfish, Larry.’ You guys are going to go, ‘OK. So what?’” Wood said on Monday. “I would come over to ask for a controller and he would be like, ‘I’m just gonna talk to my girl.’ I looked at the computer screen or whatever and it was blank. I really don’t care. I just heard somebody talking to me … ‘I just want to introduce myself. Hi. I’m Cierre. How are you doing? Nice to meet you.’ And just went on about my business.”
Last season, when the Te'o news began to come out, Texans defensive end Antonio Smith said if Te'o was on the Texans, he would be the "butt of every joke for at least two, three years."
