Danieal Manning’s season is over.

The Texans have placed the veteran safety on the Injured Reserve list after just six games in the 2013 season. Manning has a crack around his knee. He will have surgery, he called it an extended scope, on Friday.

Manning suffered what head coach Gary Kubiak referred to on Monday as a “significant knee injury” during last Sunday’s game against the Rams.

Manning, 31, has been playing well this season. This is his third season with the Texans. He has one more left under contract.

Shiloh Keo will slide up to be the other starter next to future Hall-of-Famer Ed Reed. Keo filled in for Reed at the beginning of the season before Reed's hip was healthy.

The Texans also have rookie second-round pick D.J. Swearinger and Eddie Pleasant as the other safeties. And cornerback Brandon Harris also has the capability to play safety.

But the Texans lost a cornerback on Wednesday too. Rookie undrafted free agent A.J. Bouye has been placed on the IR.

Taking the places of Manning and Bouye on the active roster will be CB Elbert Mack and LB Mike Mohammed. Mack was with the Texans during training camp before being cut and Mohamed was on the team’s practice squad.

Filling Mohamed’s spot on the practice squad will be cornerback Josh Victorian. Victorian, 25, spent some time on the Steelers’ active roster last season.
