The Texans placed third-round pick Sam Montgomery on the non-football injury list on Monday.

Montgomery was the 95th overall pick in the draft out of LSU and will be an OLB with the Texans.

As explained by the NFLPA, a team can put a player on the non-football injury list if "the player fails the club’s pre-season physical because he sustained an injury unrelated to football."

Montgomery can be moved to the active roster at any time during camp but if he doesn't get moved before final cuts, he will spend the first six weeks of the regular season on the non-injury list. He can't practice until he's taken off the NFI.

Rookie safety Orhian Johnson, from Ohio State, was also placed on the same NFI list.

The Texans also made some other moves on Monday, releasing defensive tackle Ra'Shon "Sunny" Harris, who was injured this spring. They also placed rookie defensive end Earl Okine on the Active/Physically Unable to Perform List.

The release of Harris gives the Texans an open spot on their 90-man roster, while Okine, Montgomery and Johnson count toward the roster.
