T.J. Yates will be the second quarterback into the Texans’ game on Sunday. Case Keenum will be third.

The two quarterbacks are battling for the backup spot but Kubiak said there was no particular reason Yates is going first instead of Keenum.

“Just kind of went back and forth,” Kubiak said. “T.J. went the first week, then Case will probably start the game next Thursday. I just think it’s important they get equal reps.”

Both backup quarterbacks played well in last Saturday’s game against the Dolphins.

Arian Foster and DeVier Posey had a good day of work, taking all the scout team reps but neither will play on Sunday. Both will work out that day though.

DeAndre Hopkins, who had already been ruled out for Sunday’s game is still in Phase 1 of the five-phase post-concussion protocol. But Kubiak said Hopkins was “feeling a lot better” and was doing more on Friday.

Shane Lechler, who hasn’t punted in preseason games this year, might get a couple chances on Sunday. Lechler had an issue with his plant leg in Minnesota before the Vikings game but has been fine. He hasn’t been punting but has been holding for kicker Randy Bullock.
