Brian Cushing was held out of Sunday’s afternoon practice at the Methodist Training Center. No, his surgically repaired knee is fine. Cushing was held out because he is sick.

"Just sick,” head coach Gary Kubiak said. “We’ve had a few guys sick and today’s his turn I guess.”

Left guard Wade Smith is “fine,” according to Kubiak. Smith has a bone bruise on his knee. The coach said they’ve slowed down Smith’s recovery process to relieve the inflammation. The team will decide later this week if Smith will play against Miami on Saturday.

Sam Montgomery, who missed nine full days of training camp with an ankle injury, was a limited participant toward the end of last week. He’s now “full go,” Kubiak said.

Five or six guys will be completely back from injury on Monday morning when the team gets back on the field for its normal training camp practice schedule.

Ed Reed (hip), DeVier Posey (Achilles) and Arian Foster (back), the three players on the Active/PUP list, are still not practicing with the team. All three worked on the side on Sunday afternoon, as did third-round pick Brennan Williams (knee).

The Texans will be back to two-a-day practices for the next four days before an off day on Friday and a home game against the Dolphins on Saturday.
