DeAndre Hopkins passed Phase 5 of his concussion protocol and will be ready for the season opener on Monday night.

Hopkins was concussed on his second catch early in the team’s second preseason game against the Dolphins. He missed the final two preseason games.

Hopkins will start opposite Andre Johnson in Week 1 against San Diego on Sept. 9 in the nightcap of the Monday Night Football doubleheader.

“Well, I think he’s come along well,” Johnson said. “But he’s a rookie still. There’s things he’s going to have to learn. Now he’s really going to have to learn them on the fly because there’s really no preseason and things like that. Every little mistake is big now. Nobody’s perfect, even I make mistakes. You just have to have a short-term memory and move on from it.”

Hopkins has been getting advice from Johnson, a Pro Bowler, since his arrival to rookie camp in the spring. Hopkins was the Texans’ first-round selection (27th) from Clemson.
