Texans hire Zgonina as assistant DL coach

The Texans have hired Jeff Zgonina to be their assistant defensive line coach.

Zgonina, 42, will work under his former coach, defensive line coach Bill Kollar. Kollar coached Zgonina at Purdue,  with the Falcons, Rams and Texans.

Zgonina played 17 years in the NFL for seven different teams. He is a first-time coach in 2013 with the Texans. He was drafted in the seventh round of the '93 draft and played in 219 NFL games. He had 26 sacks and 13 fumble recoveries in his career. He played the last 48 games of his career with the Texans.

On Wednesday, the Texans also promoted Russell Joyner to director of football information systems. Joyner joined the Texans after the 2010 season as the team's football administration developer.
