After the release of Ed Reed and placing Arian Foster on Injured Reserve, the Texans had two empty roster spots.

Those spots have been filled by safety Jawanza Starling and inside linebacker D.J. Smith, who have been signed to the active 53-man roster.

Starling is a rookie from USC. He was with the Texans during training camp and was with the Giants practice squad. Smith was most recently with the Chargers.

The team has also added CB Loyce Means and WR Rico Richardson to the practice squad. WR Andy Cruse has been placed on the PS Injured Reserve.
