Four cracked ribs won’t keep Ben Tate out against the Colts. He will play on Sunday.

"It's very important," Kubiak said about Tate being ready to go. "I think we were kind of feeling that way with Ben."

And Tate might need to be the starter, depending on the health of Arian Foster. Kubiak said Foster (hamstring) had his best practice day this week on Friday but is still a game-time decision. Foster is listed as questionable.

“I’m ecstatic,” Tate said. “It’s always good to be out there and play the game that I love playing.”

Tate will wear some kind of protective gear over his ribs on Sunday but said the key to playing through that type of injury is blocking it out of his mind. He said once the game gets going, he won’t be thinking about it.

“That says a lot. A lot of guys won’t do it,” fullback Greg Jones said. “It says a lot about him and his character and the type of football player he is.”

The Texans have three other running backs on the roster: Deji Karim, Dennis Johnson and Ray Graham. Karim has the most experience of the group. The other two are rookies. Kubiak said the team will dress three running backs.

Foster declined to talk to the media for the third straight day on Friday. The last time he spoke was Monday, when he said: “I expect to practice this week and push towards playing.”

He did practice this week. Now, we’ll see if he’s able to play on Sunday.
