Rookie second-round pick D.J. Swearinger will make his first career start on Sunday in Kansas City.

Swearinger will replace Danieal Manning, who was lost for the year, at the strong safety spot.

"He plays fast, he’s a quick leaner," defensive coordinator Wade Phillips said. "He makes mistakes but he corrects them. Whenever it’s in a game or practice or whatever. He’s really gotten better and better since he’s gone along. I think he’s ready to play, so that’s a good thing for us."

Originally, head coach Gary Kubiak said Shiloh Keo would start but on Thursday, Phillips said it will be Swearinger. Keo will work in the dime package, where Swearinger has been playing. On Wednesday, Keo said he expected to start on Sunday.

Phillips explained that Keo has been practicing as a free safety and Swearinger has been practicing as a strong safety.
