To the surprise and dismay of many Texans fans, Matt Schaub is still on the roster.

But for how long?

According to SportsRadio 610 in Houston, the Raiders and Texans are in "serious talks about a trade involving Matt Schaub heading to Oakland."

Schaub, 32, comes with a $14.5 million salary cap hit in 2014 and has three years left on his contract. Before free agency began it seemed unlikely any team would trade for Schaub and his big cap hit but if any team could, it would be the Raiders, who are over $59 million under the cap.

If the Texans can't trade Schaub and elect to cut him, they'd have two options. They could cut him normally, which would save $4 million in cap room. Or, they could save $11 million by designating him as a post-June 1 cut. But that would leave a $7 million cap hit in 2015.

Schaub had some very good seasons with the Texans but 2013 wasn't one of them. He struggled to protect the football and even threw pick-6s in four consecutive games before losing his starting job as the Texans had the worst record in the NFL.

If Schaub did get dealt to the Raiders, he'd have a chance to face the Texans in 2014; the game will be in Oakland.
