Ed Reed is back in town

The Texans schedule was released Thursday night and newly acquired safety Ed Reed probably has September 22 circled on his calendar.

In Week 3 the Texans travel to Baltimore to face the defending Super Bowl champion Ravens. A team and a city Reed had called home since being drafted 24th overall in the 2002 NFL Draft. Reed is now a Texan and was out at Redstone Golf Course to support Matt Schaub’s charity, the Gr8 Hope Foundation that benefits children’s needs. Along with Reed, Owen Daniels, Andre Johnson, Kareem Jackson, Garrett Graham, Brooks Reed and Chris Myers to name a few were all out to support Schaub and his charity.

“I’m not able to get down as much for workouts with the guys as I’d like because I’m training with my doctor, knowing what I’m able to get done with him,” Reed said about missing the start of Texans voluntary workouts that started April 15. “But when you have a chance to come support your teammates and get acclimated and hangout with them it’s good to do that.”

Reed is known as one of the best players in the league when it comes to studying film and preparing for a game. The Texans secondary is more than excited to have Reed at their disposal.

“When I got a chance to talk to him, I told him that I’ve been watching him since I was a younger ball player,” cornerback Kareem Jackson said. “He’s defiantly going to be a Hall of Famer, so to get to pick his mind and be in the film room with him and hear him talk football and tell us everything he’s learned throughout the years is defiantly going to be exciting.”

“We’re going to see what those guys strengths are and what those guys weaknesses are and see how I can help them and how they can help me, “ Reed said. “We’ll see once the football thing gets started to see what needs to get done.”

Reed also had a meeting with head coach Gary Kubiak and middle linebacker Brian Cushing since he signed with the Texans.

“Knowing how excited he is to get back to playing excites me,” Reed said. “I’m very excited to be here and a part of this team because I know what they bring to the table because I’ve played against them for so long. It’s going to be an exciting year.”
