This week, Texans reporter Dave Zangaro will take a look at five candidates who might have a chance to break out in 2014. We've already looked at Ryan Griffin, Brandon Brooks and DeVier Posey. Up now, Brandon Harris.

2013 stats: 16 tackles, five passes defended

Contract status: Signed through 2014

A look back at 2013: Harris didn’t get a ton of playing time in 2013. He played about 20 percent of the Texans’ defensive snaps. Harris, who was a second-round pick in 2011, has shown some really good things and some bad ones.

At times, he looks like he might end up living to his draft status and “No Fly Zone”  nickname. But at other times, he doesn’t look good. He was the next corner off the bench after Brice McCain in 2013. He got on the field because of injuries and played safety in some situations.

Outlook for 2014: The reason the outlook is good for Harris is because McCain had such a bad 2013 season. It’s hard to think that if McCain is on the team and starts the 2014 season as badly as he played last year that Harris wouldn’t replace him. Harris’ ability to play safety makes him even more of an asset too.

Prediction for 2014: Harris will be the team’s nickel corner for most of the season.
