When D.J. Swearinger was drafted, he couldn't stop talking about Ed Reed.

He was excited to get the chance to meet one of his idols and play next to him too. But Reed isn't the only safety Swearinger grew up idolizing.

And on Tuesday, Swearinger, the Texans' second-round pick, got a chance to meet another one.

He tweeted out a photo of him and former Eagles great Brian Dawkins, who like Swearinger, was known for his hard-hitting style. Swearinger said it was an "honor and blessing" to meet Dawkins.

Aside from Dawkins and Reed, Swearinger considered the late Sean Taylor an idol also.

Swearinger didn't work as a starter during the Texans' offseason workouts but did see plenty of snaps in the team's Dime package. There's also the possibility he might start with Danieal Manning if Reed can't go. Reed had offseason hip surgery.

Swearinger seemed pleased to spend some time with Ed Reed during minicamp but had a chance to meet Brian Dawkins at the NFL's annual Rookie Symposium.

From South Carolina, Swearinger has talked about the rivalry between SC and Clemson. He's talked about playing DeAndre Hopkins, who went to Clemson. You know who else went to Clemson?

Brian Dawkins.
