Ja'Gared Davis, one of the Texans' cuts to get to 75 players, has been claimed by the New England Patriots.

Davis, 22, was signed by the Texans as an undrafted free agent from SMU this offseason.

To make room for Davis, the Pats released cornerback Ras-I Dowling.

Davis, who played in 53 collegiate games and had 301 tackles and 20 sacks, never really figured into the Texans' roster picture despite some early depth concerns at inside linebacker.

David Hunter and Michael Smith, who the Texans waived/injured, passed through waivers and reverted to IR.

The 10 other players the team cut -- Zach Boren, Elliot Coffey, Bryan Collins, Ray Graham, Travis Howard, Stephen McGee, Nick Mondek, Earl Okine, Adam Schiltz and Andrew Shapiro -- cleared waivers.
