Whitney Mercilus, who injured his right hamstring early in training camp, is still not back practicing with the team.

Mercilus is the starting WILL linebacker for the Texans this year as he heads into his second NFL season but hasn’t been able to play in the first two preseason games. He has not been ruled out for the third just yet though.

“We are concerned because we thought he’d definitely be back today,” head coach Gary Kubiak said. “We were working all along toward New Orleans. Now that doesn’t mean we’re still not gonna get there. It’s only Monday, we start our week on Wednesday. But Whitney’s a very young player; he needs to play. But we need to do what we need to do to get him healthy.”

DeAndre Hopkins didn’t practice on Monday because he was “not feeling very good.” Kubiak said, however, that Hopkins hasn’t yet been ruled out for Sunday’s game against the Saints.

Reed in Atlanta
Ed Reed is back with a specialist in Atlanta, as he was last week, rehabilitating his hip, which he had surgery on in April. Reed remains on the PUP list and hasn’t yet practiced with the team.

"We sent him back to Atlanta because it’s such a positive step for him and all I know is all indications are that things are going really, really good,” Kubiak said.

Kubiak said this process is good for Reed’s confidence because he’s working with the same person who worked with Reed after a hip surgery before the 2010 season. The Texans will probably have the surgeon look at Reed by the end of the week.

Other injuries
DeVier Posey returned to practice seven months after tearing his Achilles in the playoff loss to New England. The Texans removed him from the Active/PUP list.

Offensive lineman and third-round pick Brennan Williams (knee) was back at practice on Monday but did not participate in team drills.

Shiloh Keo (quad) worked some at practice on Monday, as did Orhian Johnson (ab contusion). Eddie Pleasant (knee sprain) wasn’t able to do anything.
