Klein Kubiak was glad his Rice Owls could put a smile on his dad's face on Saturday.

Only a day earlier, the Houston Texans had relieved his father, Gary Kubiak, of his head-coaching duties. But Kubiak was at Rice Stadium on Saturday, watching his wide receiver son join his Rice Owls in celebration after winning the school's first-ever Conference USA championship. When asked afterward how everyone was doing in the Kubiak clan, Klein said everyone was just fine.

"That's something my dad's taught me since I was a young kid - tough times don't last, but tough people do," Klein Kubiak said. "And he's the toughest guy I know. And I know he'll come out on top of this, and I'm just glad to put a smile on his face today.

"Today is just pure excitement, you know. News like that's hard, but it's part of the business and everyone knows that. He'll land on his feet and we'll just keep on moving."
