Texans rule key players out for Sunday
After missing practice all week, cornerback Johnathan Joseph will miss the Texans' game vs. the Titans on Sunday.
Joseph didn't work with trainers on Thursday in the hopes he would be able to practice on Friday but he wasn't able to.
In addition to Joseph, linebacker Bradie James (hamstring), offensive guard Antoine Caldwell (hamstring) and offensive tackle Derek Newton (knee) are all ruled out, according to head coach Gary Kubiak, after they missed practice on Friday.
They join linebacker Brooks Reed (groin) on the shelf.
“Yeah, it’s come on pretty hard here over the course of the last two weeks and the amount of ball we’ve played in such a short period of time didn’t help the cause, but that’s part of the deal and we got to work through it," Kubiak said.
"We’ll get an extra day of rest next week. That’s part of this league. Each Sunday, how do you find a way to win? What do we have to go do this weekend to win? We’ve got a lot of young guys being put in a tough spot, but hey, that’s what it’s all about. Like I said, we’ve had a good week, a good week of preparation. We’ve got to go down there and play well.”
In Newton's place, Ryan Harris will make his first start since 2010.
Alan Ball missed practice on Friday with a sore foot and will be a game-time decision. If healthy, Ball will start in Joseph's spot accross from Kareem Jackson, with Brice McCain in the slot. If Ball can't go, McCain will be the starter and Brandon Harris will move up to play in the nickel.
“We all work the same here. We all get the same game plan. We all watch the same film," Jackson said. "We all got the same goals in mind. Regardless, we go over with Brice, Brandon Harris, [Roc] Carmichael, anybody. I have the same confidence in those guys that I have in Johnathan Joseph."
