Johnson on Schaub exchange, last play, his contract
Andre Johnson thought the Texans’ worst days were long gone. But he was wrong.
Johnson, 32, has been with the Texans since 2003 but didn’t see a winning season until 2009. He didn’t see a division crown until 2011.
The Texans fell to 2-8 with another loss on Sunday, this time 28-23 to the Raiders, and are a complete disaster. After the last offensive play, Johnson got into it with quarterback Matt Schaub on the sideline.
Does Johnson want to remain in Houston?
“I’m under contract, so, I have to play my contract out,” said Johnson, whose deal goes through the 2016 season. “I can’t do anything about that.”
Would he be willing to go through more tough seasons?
“I always said this is where I wanted to be so I don’t really have anything to say about that,” he said. “I still have an ongoing contract.”
One reporter told Johnson that players under contract can ask for a trade. “Yeah they can,” he responded. “I don’t know. I never asked for a trade. Did you hear anything about that?”
Johnson caught 10 passes for 116 yards on Sunday. He’s on pace for 115 catches and 1,546 yards. He had 112 for 1,598 last season. It would be the second time in his career with back-to-back seasons with 100 catches and 1,500 yards.
