Andre Johnson did indeed suffer a concussion when he was hit hard by Bernard Pollard in the fourth quarter of the Texans’ overtime win on Sunday.

Johnson will now have to pass the NFL’s concussion protocol before he is cleared to return to action.

“He’s doing great today,” head coach Gary Kubiak said on Monday. “He’s out, rode the bike today. He’s doing great but he’s in the protocol right now.”

After the game, several of Johnson’s teammates said the Pro Bowl wide receiver told them he was OK. Kubiak echoed those thoughts on Monday. Johnson would have to pass all five stages of the protocol to play next Sunday in Baltimore.

“I think, obviously it’ll be an end-of-the-week decision because he has to go through the process but I think after the game, talking to him and seeing where he’s at today, obviously he’s doing well, so I would expect the progress to go pretty quickly if it goes like it has the last 24 hours,” Kubiak said.

Johnson, 32, leads the team with 20 receptions and 222 yards.
