Thursday is the first game tight end Owen Daniels is eligible to return from the Injured Reserve with designation to return.

But he’s not ready yet.

“OD did work today on the field, not with the team but on his own and had a really good day,” head coach Gary Kubiak said. “Obviously, he’s not going to play this week but we think we made a lot of progress and we’ll see where we are heading into the weekend.”

Daniels suffered a non-displaced fibula fracture against the 49ers on Oct. 6. He was eligible to return to practice last week but has still not worked with the team. Last week, Daniels acknowledged that it would be tough to play this Thursday with the short week of work and he didn’t even get to practice.

In Daniels’ place, Garrett Graham has assumed the starting role, while rookie Ryan Griffin has moved into the backup role.

“It’s important to him to get back and get his feet wet again, so to speak, because he was playing so well,” Daniels said. “And he’s got a lot of good years left, so I think it’s important. I can’t speak for him but I know for our team, it’s extremely important. So hopefully we’ll have him back for the last three weeks.”
The only Texan who Kubiak said was limited during the team’s “jog-through” on Tuesday was fullback Greg Jones. Jones has missed practice time over the last several weeks and has been able to play. Kubiak didn’t seem worried about Jones missing Thursday’s game.
