Arian Foster left Sunday night's game early with a back injury and won't return.

Foster came into the game as a game-time decision because of a hamstring injury he battled throughout the week. Foster struggled with a back injury during training camp and didn't play in the preseason.

In his absence, Ben Tate will get most of the carries. Tate has four cracked ribs but is playing anyway, with protection on his midsection.

The other active running back in Dennis Johnson, who the Texans signed off the Browns' practice squad on Monday. He spent training camp with the Texans.
