Foster (back) still not ready to return

The Texans hoped to have running back Arian Foster back on Monday. That won’t happen.

“Yeah, he just has some lower back soreness that is bothering him in his legs a little bit,” head coach Gary Kubiak said on Sunday. “He’s had some injections to try to alleviate some of the soreness and stuff. The way I understand it right now, we’re trying to get through the injection process, that it’s causing some discomfort and it’s something that’s going to take some time for him to get through.”

Kubiak said it was his understanding that the injections, which happened before the first preseason game, has caused the soreness in Foster's legs.

Kubiak said the team met with the doctors who have been treating Foster’s back hours before Saturday’s game and it was determined that he would not return on Monday. Foster started training camp on the PUP with a calf strain. His calf is now healthy but his back is preventing him from practicing. During training camp Kubiak said he didn't think the two injuries were related.

Without Foster, Ben Tate is the only running back on the team with significant NFL experience.

“The running back picture is concerning to you,” said Kubiak, who added that he's also concerned about the lack of reps for Foster.

While Foster won’t be back on Monday, wideout DeVier Posey is expected to be back. Posey has been on the PUP list as he recovers from an Achilles tear he suffered in the playoff loss to New England.

With Posey’s coming off the PUP, it means he won’t be able to go back on the regular-season list. That means he’ll likely be on the 53-man roster when the season starts.

Rookie third-round offensive lineman Brennan Williams (knee) is also expected to be back at practice on Monday.

Other injuries
First-round pick DeAndre Hopkins was "doing better" on Sunday, the day after he suffered a concussion. He will begin the concussion protocol on Monday.

Safeties Shiloh Keo (quad contusion) and Orhian Johnson (ab contusion) are day-to-day. And Eddie Pleasant has a knee sprain that might keep him out for a few days. The safety spot is a concern heading into the next game.

Linebacker Mike Mohamed has a slight hamstring injury and is day-to-day.
