While plenty of people in Houston and around the country think the Texans will sit Matt Schaub for this Sunday’s game against the Rams, Jeff Fisher isn’t buying it.

The Rams coach is preparing to face Schaub on Sunday at Reliant Stadium.

“I’m quite confident that Matt’s going to play,” Fisher said on Wednesday morning in a conference call with Houston reporters. “You know, when you let a couple slip away or your not matching expectations, everyone points a finger toward the quarterback. Matt’s an excellent quarterback. He’s won a lot of games. I personally have faced him many, many times and I know what he is capable of doing, so we’re going to have our hands full with their offense, which includes Matt’s arm and also includes an excellent running game.”

Schaub has come under fire recently for his play. He has had an interception returned for a touchdown in four straight games and has thrown nine interceptions through five games. The Texans started the season 2-0 but have lost three straight, which has them two games behind the Colts in the AFC South.

Fisher said Schaub can overcome his struggles with a win or a big day.

“I think we had back-to-back weeks where (Rams quarterback) Sam (Bradford) threw interceptions for touchdown,” said Fisher. Bradford threw pick-6s in each of the first two games of the season. “These two were, however, deflected but they were still deflating. But, you know, Sam bounced back. And Matt’s a good quarterback. He’s the leader of that offense. C’mon, let’s be real here. He did a nice job with them last year and there’s a lot of games left.”
