Ed Reed’s time with the Texans didn’t go as planned. Instead of helping the team reach its first-ever Super Bowl, Reed got hurt, got benched and got cut.

But on Wednesday, in a conference call with Baltimore media, as Reed's current team, the Jets, prepares to play the Ravens, Reed ripped the Texans.

“That defense is not a good fit for a lot of people who are still down there,” Reed said, via the transcript from the Ravens. “It wasn’t just about me, and that’s what my comments were. My comments were not just about me, and obviously, that’s why I’m not there anymore – because some people felt some type of way about what I said.

“The truth is the truth, and that’s the reason why what happened last week happened, and they know I know. People might feel a certain way, like Ed did this, and Ed didn’t do things on the football field, but you’ve got to look at the play-calling. People don’t know how the schematic part of it goes. You’ve got to put your players in a position to make plays as well from a coach’s perspective.”

Reed, 35, became a backup toward the end of his short time with the Texans. After playing very minimally against the Cardinals, Reed criticized the team, saying they were “outplayed and outcoached.” Head coach Gary Kubiak claimed Reed was cut for football reasons.

On Wednesday, Reed was very critical of Texans defensive coordinator Wade Phillips. He was asked if he and Phillips spoke before Reed left Houston.

“Yeah, Wade said something to me,” Reed said. “He came and basically just made sure I was leaving, and honestly, of all people, he’s probably the guy, the reason that I’m not there. It’s all good, man. I’m not worried about it.”

Reed’s comments hit social media before the Texans’ locker room opened to Houston media, so several players were asked about them.

“No. I haven’t heard that,” J.J. Watt said. “I’m worried about my team and I would assume he’s worried about his. I guess if he wants to continue to talk about us, it’s fine.”

“Well, like I said before, people have feelings,” said Andre Johnson, who played college football with Reed. “People feel certain ways. Maybe that’s something he felt when he was here. Other than that, I really can’t speak on it. That’s Ed’s feelings. That’s what he felt.”

Like he did in Houston, Reed pointed out that the ball wasn’t thrown in his direction as a member of the Texans. He pointed out the Vernon Davis touchdown in San Francisco. Reed was seen trailing Davis. That wasn’t Reed’s man but “they’re looking for every reason to put everything on Ed Reed. That’s funny,” he said.
