Colts outside linebacker Robert Mathis is the AFC Defensive Player of the Month for October.

The Texans will get to see Mathis in his first game of November on Sunday night at Reliant Stadium.

Mathis had four sacks and two forced fumbles in three games in October. He has 11.5 sacks so far this season, which leads the NFL. This is Mathis' second year in a 3-4.

"Obviously, it was a huge transition a year ago for him, going from a 4-3 end to a stand up outside linebacker, and those types of things," Colts head coach Chuck Pagano said in a conference call with Houston reporters on Wednesday. "Second year in, familiarity, comfort level. Again, he takes great care of himself and stays in great shape. He’s been doing great things for his entire career. So we’re not at all surprised just because of his work ethic and the work he puts in. We’re not surprised that he’s putting the numbers up that he is.”

All-Pro left tackle Duane Brown will have to face Mathis on Sunday. So will struggling right tackle Derek Newton.

"First and foremost, he plays harder than any defender in the league," Brown said. "He's a little undersized, he's about 240 or so but he plays a lot bigger than that."
