The Indianapolis Colts have acquired running back Trent Richardson from the Browns in exchange for a 2014 first-round pick.

Richardson, 23, was the third-overall pick in 2012 draft out of Alabama. As a rookie, he ran 267 times for 950 yards and scored 11 times.

In two games this season, Richardson has 31 attempts for 105 yards and zero touchdowns.

“Trent’s a great player and we expect him to have success in this league,” said Browns CEO Joe Banner via the team's website. “Right now, based on how we’re building this team for sustainable success, we’re going to be aggressive and do what it takes to assemble a team that consistently wins.”

The Texans play the Colts on Nov. 3 in Houston and Dec. 15 on the road. The Colts are probably the biggest threat to the Texans in the division.

Colts GM Ryan Grigson, who was the NFL Executive of the Year last year, has ties with the Browns. He worked for Cleveland Browns president Joe Banner in Philadelphia.
