The Texans are unleashing Jadeveon Clowney on the NFL on Saturday night.

The No. 1 overall pick, who has missed the last few days of practice, was back on the field Thursday and said he’ll play in the team’s first preseason game against the Cardinals in Arizona.

“Oh yeah, I’ll be playing,” he said.

When the team released its initial depth chart on Tuesday, he was listed as the starter at the JACK linebacker position. Will he start on Saturday?

“Yeah … hopefully,” he said.

Shortly after Clowney talked to the media, head coach Bill O’Brien was asked about Clowney’s saying he’ll start the game.

“He’ll start? Really?” O’Brien said. “That’s news to me. We’ll find out when the game starts.”

O'Brien also said that Arian Foster and Andre Johnson won't play on Saturday. Both have missed several days of practice because of leg injuries. Foster hurt his leg on July 27 and has practiced just one day since and Johnson hurt his hamstring the next day and hasn't practiced since.

Clowney had sports hernia surgery in June but was back with the team to start training camp and practiced on a limited basis. He left practice early on Saturday but O’Brien claimed Clowney didn’t tweak anything, that they were just managing him. Clowney then missed the next three days of practice before returning on Thursday.

When asked if he’s 100 percent healthy, Clowney side-stepped.

“I’m just taking it one day at a time,” he said. “Out here, doing what I can do, help the team and go forward with that.”
