While it was no surprise the Texans didn't place the franchise tag on Glover Quin before Monday's deadline, there was a slight surprise in the AFC South.

The Titans elected not to use their tag on tight end Jared Cook. There were reports that they planned to do so.

According to Jim Wyatt of The Tennessean, the Titans didn't want to fight with Cook about his position through an arbitrator.

See, Cook was drafted as a tight end but plays a hybrid TE/WR role. He wants to be considered a wide receiver, while the Titans would have wanted to call him a tight end.

So what's the big deal? What's the difference? Over $4 million.

The franchise tag would pay him $6.07 million as a tight end, while the wide receiver tag number is $10.54 million.

The Titans avoided that battle but now Cook will become a free agent on March 12. There's a new three-day rule in the NFL, which means players and different teams will be allowed to talk three days before free agency starts.
