The Texans are coming off of their second straight AFC South title and playoff berth and will soon have Houston buzzing. For the 15 days leading up to training camp, we’ll take a look at 15 questions surrounding the team:

Will Reed be ready?

This is a question we won’t be able to answer for a while.

Ed Reed was the Texans’ big free agent signing this offseason. The 34-year-old is a future Hall-of-Famer but surgery for a torn labrum has fans worried he might not be ready for the start of the season.

And Reed hasn’t shot those worries down. In fact, he’s continually said he wants to make sure he’s ready for the end of the season, when it counts.

“It’s going well right now. There’s really no timeline,” Reed said during the mandatory mini camp. He was there but didn’t participate in practice. “I know what I want. I know what we want as an organization. We’re just going to keep on grinding and keep on shooting for September.”

Reed said he’ll have a better idea of his readiness for Week 1 once training camp begins. It’s possible he won’t be ready for the start of training camp. It’s possible he won’t be ready until the start of the season. It’s possible he won’t be ready until sometime after the season starts.

If Reed isn’t ready by the start of the season, either Shiloh Keo or rookie second-rounder D.J. Swearinger would have to start next to Danieal Manning. Swearinger has a lot of potential but the team would much rather have him play in the dime package and not be a starter from the get-go.
