The Houston Astros made a move to bolster their bullpen Tuesday, agreeing to terms with relief pitcher Jose Veras, according to ESPN Deportes. The deal is reportedly for $1.85 million for 2013 with a $3.25 million option or a $150,000 buyout.
Veras, 32, pitched for five different teams over the past four seasons and spent 2012 with Milwaukee where he posted a 5-4 record in 72 games for the Brewers. In his career, Veras has struck out twice as many batters as he’s walked, and his ERA has been below 4.00 in each of the past three seasons.
Veras has pitched mostly in middle relief, though there is an expectation that he will be in the mix to pitch in the late innings of games for the Astros.
