In the eighth inning Brandon Barnes made a nice diving catch in center field, robbing The Rangers’ David Murphy of a hit. In the ninth inning Barnes hit a two-run home run off Joe Ortiz.
These plays came in a game the Astros lost 12-7 on Sunday at Minute Maid Park.
“My whole career I’ve never quit,” Barnes said. “Every guy in here is not going to quit. Whether we’re down 10 or up 10. Nobody’s stopping.
“We’re showing if there’s outs left on the board, we’re going to battle and keep playing the game right.”
Through seven innings the Astros trailed 12-1. They scored four runs in the eighth inning and two runs in the bottom of the ninth on Barnes’ homer that scored Matt Dominguez, who led off the inning with a single off Ortiz.
“We’re just trying to grind and have good at-bats and battle and drive guys in with runners in scoring position,” Barnes said.
Barnes’ homer came on a changeup on a 1-1 count to left field. It was measured at 368 feet.
“I just went and got it,” said Barnes. Got wood on it.”
