When you win a World Series, the victors get a ring. When you win the All Star Game, the prize is home field advantage in that season’s World Series. So what spoils do the victors of the Astros intra-squad scrimmage get? Banana splits.

“You want to turn it into a little bit of fun,” Astros manager Bo Porter told reporters after the scrimmage. “These guys have worked extremely hard this entire camp.”

“Now we’re getting to play opponents,” Porter added. “We wanted to put a small wager on the line. Something we all like, ice cream banana splits.”

Team Ensberg edged out Team Everett with a late inning rally to earn the dessert, but Porter was happy watching them compete.

“It was a lot of fun out there,” Porter said. “They played with a lot of energy. I think it served a great purpose, they played the game the way it was supposed to be played and took advantage of any mistakes the other team made.”
