The Phillies were reportedly on the verge of acquiring Astros reliever Wilton Lopez on Wednesday.

But according to CSNPhilly.com's Jim Salisbury, the Phillies have "put the brakes on their attempt" to trade for Lopez.

Lopez traveled to Philadelphia on Wednesday for a physical but Salisbury reports the deal fell apart after that.

The 29-year-old Lopez had a 6-3 record with 10 saves for the Astros in 2012 and took over closer duties when Brett Myers was traded to teh White Sox.

The Phillies and Astros have a lengthy history of trades in recent years, with Houston sending - among others - Brad Lidge, Roy Oswalt, and Hunter Pence to Philadelphia.

Lopez had elbow problems in 2012 but it's unclear if health concerns were the reason for the deal not being completed.
