Lance Berkman is very close to becoming a Ranger.

According to MLB.com's Brian McTaggart, Berkman has agreed to a one-year deal with the Rangers. Berkman said the deal is finished but he still needs to take a physical.

The Astros were openly interested in bringin in Berkman, even after they signed free agent Carlos Pena, but they'll still get to see him plenty this season ... he'll just be in the other dugout. Berkman told MLB.com that the Astros never formally made an offer. According to Fox Sports' Ken Rosenthal, the deal is worth $11 million plus a vesting option.

Berkman, who has had issues with his knees, will likely serve as a designated hitter for the Rangers.
