Bo Porter on pitching rotation

The Astros initial spring training rotation has been set by manager Bo Porter. Starters are expected to throw 2.0 innings in their first starts.

Right-handed pitcher Lucas Harrell will start the Astros 2013 Spring Training opener on Saturday in Clearwater, with relievers RHP Sam Demel, RHP Jarred Cosart, RHP Josh Zeid, LHP Brett Oberholtzer and RHP Chia-Jen Lo all slated to pitch on Saturday vs. the Phillies

Righty Bud Norris will start the Home Opener on Sunday vs. the Mets with RHP Jose Veras, RHP Brad Peacock, LHP Wesley Wright, RHP Rhiner Cruz, LHP Sergio Escalona and RHP Josh Fields also in the rotation.

Rounding out the rotation:

RHP Philip Humber vs. Cardinals on Monday in Jupiter

LHP Erik Bedard vs. Tigers (SS) on Tuesday in Kissimmee

RHP Jordan Lyles vs. Rays (SS) on Tuesday in Port Charlotte

RHP Alex White vs. Blue Jays on Wednesday at Dunedin

When asked about veterans getting early spring training nods, Porter replied, “Those guys are here to win a job and I want to give them every opportunity to do that and the best way is to put them in a role that they’re going to be competing.”
